Cebu City raises a new generation of digital entrepreneurs

Set for completion in early 2020, Mabuhay Tower CBP recently received Philippine Economic Zone Authority accreditation and has received inquiries from more established BPO players, as well as a new generation of nimble outsourcing suppliers with boutique-scale operations.

A more pleasant environment and highly competitive salaries are the key attractions of Cebu City to BPOs who are seen to continue driving the southern metropolis’ office market up to the end of the year, according to Phillip Anonuevo, executive director of Leechiu Property Consultants.

A leading real-estate services firm in key Philippine cities, Leechiu Property Consultants is exclusively marketing the 17-story Mabuhay Tower CBP (Cebu Business Park), a sequel to Mabuhay Tower at the Cebu IT Park now fully occupied mostly by BPOs catering to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises in key global capitals.

Set for completion in early 2020 and offering gross leasable area of close to 9,100 square meters, Mabuhay Tower CBP recently received Philippine Economic Zone Authority accreditation and has received inquiries from more established BPO players, as well as this new generation of nimble outsourcing suppliers with boutique-scale operations that require office spaces up to 500 sq.m.

Some of the latter include Filipino entrepreneurs in software development and Web marketing servicing clients abroad.

Cebu represents a more cost-effective business location to these players in the BPO space, says Anonuevo. In addition, they appreciate that Cebu, which is an educational center of the Visayas, also has a highly talented, English-speaking labor pool.

In contrast, the Manila office market has largely been focused on serving the needs of BPOs that operate in a number of countries and mid-sized firms with up to 5,000 seats, according to Anonuevo. Their scale requires office spaces with vast floor plates because they employ thousands.

But regardless of their size, Mabuhay Tower CBP offers BPOs and firms based in Cebu City a superior location within the Cebu Business Park, an established information-technology zone and business hub. Miguel Manipol, LPC associate director, observes that stores and restaurants are open up to the wee hours and transportation is available round the clock in the area. People move about freely and securely at all hours of the day, which makes the area a great setting for work-life balance.
